What it is

A recurring deposit takes a fixed amount every month for a set time and pays it all back with interest at the end. It suits regular savers.

How it's worked out

Each month's deposit earns interest, compounded quarterly, for the months left until maturity. The maturity is the sum of all of them.

What each input means

Good to know

Interest is taxed at your slab, like an FD. Missing an instalment can bring a small penalty.

A quick example

₹5,000 a month for 5 years at 7%: ₹3 lakh deposited becomes about ₹3.6 lakh.
